SERIOUS DANGER OF TEXTING WHILE DRIVING

MULTI-TASKING WHILE DRIVING CAN PROVE DANGEROUS AND/OR FATAL

Texting, talking on the phone, changing the radio, eating, putting on makeup and joking around with friends, all increase the odds of an auto accident, warns Henry County Allstate insurance agent, Tremelle Moore.

Insurance officials, along with police officials, caution drivers to avoid multi-tasking, while driving in traffic jams, and congested mall parking lots filled with pedestrians and moving vehicles, particularly during the hectic holiday season.

Allstate Insurance Co., has conducted extensive research, which has found that eliminating distractions in the car can help drivers avoid accidents, and ultimately save lives, said Moore.

One of Moore’s customers was recently involved in a three-car, automobile accident, in which she was hit by a driver who was texting, according to the Clayton County police report.

In the three-car pile up, Moore’s customer was the third vehicle involved in the accident. The driver was texting when he hit a vehicle in front of him, and that driver rear-ended Moore’s customer. The accident took place Dec. 2, on Georgia Highway 85, in Riverdale, said Moore.

“Although no one was injured in the accident, it could have been a lot worst than it actually turned out,” he said.

Moore encourages drivers to practice caution behind the wheel. “We know accidents happen, but that shouldn’t get you down,” he said.
