ILLEGAL BLOOD ALCOHOL CONTENT (BAC) IN GEORGIA

Legal v. Illegal Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) in Georgia

In Georgia, drivers can be tested to determine their Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) using (1) an alcosensor (to determine the presence of alcohol); (2) a breathalyzer; and/or (3) blood testing. The first two testing methods are not as accurate as the last method. It is not uncommon for test results to produce false positives.

In Georgia, it is illegal to drive/operate a moving vehicle with a (BAC) of .08 or higher. The normal body can metabolize between .015 and .020 percent  (BAC) per hour. The following chart uses a conservative .016 percent BAC. The chart is intended to give you an idea of the number of hours it takes for men and women to reach zero (BAC), i.e. no blood alcohol content.

To use this chart:

1         Count the number of drinks you had, i.e. one drink equals 1 oz of 100 proof liquor, 12 oz beer, or 5 oz of wine;

2         The chart highlights the maximum BAC for the number of drinks and your body weight;

3         Subtract from the percent blood alcohol content the amount of alcohol eliminated since the time of the first drink, using the average elimination rate of .015% per hour.
